OUR HISTORY

TAKING A LEAP

At Champs Chicken, we’re all about doing things better. Founded in March 1999 by Shawn and Julie Burcham, our journey began in the Burchams’ garage in Willard, MO, with a vision to bring quality, crave-worthy chicken to communities nationwide. That vision took a major leap on April 30, 1999, when the first Champs Chicken opened in Auxvasse, Missouri, proudly owned by Roger and Jeanie Moser. This original location remains a cornerstone of our story. From those humble beginnings, Champs Chicken has grown into a beloved brand with 400+ locations, all supported by our national headquarters in Holts Summit, MO.

NEW MILESTONES

On March 5, 2025, we opened our first stand-alone Champs Chicken in Columbia, MO. This corporate location is 100% Employee-Owned.

That’s why we proudly support organizations like the Super Sam Foundation and the St. Clair Butterfly Foundation, both dedicated to helping children overcome challenges and build brighter futures.

The Super Sam Foundation, founded in Missouri, carries on Sam’s compassionate spirit and mission to fight for “All the Kids” battling cancer. Through comfort, awareness, and critical funding for pediatric cancer research, they champion a cause we’re honored to support.

We’re also proud to partner with the St. Clair Butterfly Foundation, which empowers children and teens healing from trauma through therapeutic creative arts programs. Whether in schools, shelters, or other community spaces, their work fosters resilience and inspires transformation.

Our community support doesn’t stop there. Through local sponsorships, charitable events, and hands-on volunteer work, we continue striving to bring hope, healing, and meaningful change to the communities we serve.
